Frequently asked questions about swim coaching

At Independent Swim Coaches, we understand you might have questions before diving in. Here, we address some of the most common inquiries to help you feel confident and ready to start your swim journey with us.

Your questions answered

We are dedicated to providing personalised swim coaching that caters to your unique needs and goals. Our approach focuses on building confidence and skill in the water, ensuring every lesson is a step forward in your aquatic journey. Explore our FAQs to learn more about how we can help you achieve your swimming aspirations.

How long are the training sessions?

Our initaial training sessions are typically 45 minutes long, designed to provide effective instruction without overwhelming you. We can also adjust session lengths based on your availability and goals.

My general health and physical capabilities worry me?

We conduct an initial assessment to understand your current health and physical capabilities. This allows us to tailor a safe and effective swim plan that respects your body's limits while gently challenging you to improve.

I have physical limitations, will this impact my ability to learn?

Not at all. We specialise in adapting our coaching methods to accommodate various physical limitations. Our goal is to make swimming accessible and enjoyable for everyone, focusing on what you can do rather than what you can not.

How many lessons will I require?

The number of lessons required varies depending on your starting ability, goals, and consistency. We will discuss a recommended lesson plan after your initial assessment to give you a clear idea of the pathway forward.

Will the swimming lesson be too long for me?

We structure our lessons to be progressive and engaging, ensuring they are never too long or overwhelming. Our coaches are skilled at reading your energy levels and adjusting the pace to keep you comfortable and motivated.

If I join the squad sessions will I be able to keep up?

Our squad sessions are designed with varying levels in mind. We place you in a group that matches your ability, ensuring you can comfortably participate and progress at your own pace without feeling left behind. Remember every member started at the same level as you.

What makes your swim coaching unique?

Having professional swim coaching ensures your abilities and capabilities are carefully considered when tailoring a swim plan for you. We provide personalised attention, adapting our techniques to your learning style and physical needs for optimal progress.

How can I book a session?

You can easily book a session by visiting our Booking page, or by contacting us directly at 021 151 5853 or info@iswimc.org.

What equipment do I need to bring?

Please bring a kickboard, goggles, a swim cap if you have one, and flippers to your session. The coach will have spare goggles, kickboards, and flippers available if required for your first session.
